Voter turnout 67.12 pc in first phase of polls in Dhading district

DHADINGBESI: The first phase of House of Representatives and State Assembly elections in Dhading district recorded 67.12 voter turnout, the Election Commission said.

Dhading district has two constituency for parliament and 4 state assembly positions.

Out of 2,33,505 eligible voters only 1,56,727 voters cast their votes at 102 polling stations and 272 polling booths in the district.

At least 51 ballot boxes from remote villages have been brought to the Dhadingbesi, district headquarters, via helicopter.

According to the District Election Office despite rise in population, the voter turnout did not rise as expected compared to local level elections.

51 ballot boxes from remote Rubivalley and Khaniyabas Rural Municipality have been brought to the district headquarters via helicopter this morning.

Chief District Office Shyam Prasad Bhandari said other ballot boxes have already been shifted to the Dhadingbesi. However, the vote counting would begin only after the completion of the second phase of elections in remaining 45 districts on Decmeber 7.

The first phase of House of Representatives and State Assemblies elections were commenced on Sunday in 32 districts across the nation.

As per the constitutional requirement, all the levels of elections should be held by January 21 for the implementation of constitution and federalism in the nation.
