Following a power-sharing deal with the UML, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has filed his candidacy for the post of Prime Minister.

Senior Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel proposed Koirala as Prime Minister, while the UML parliamentary leader KP Sharma Oli seconded the proposal.

The candidacy by Koirala follows the six-point power-sharing deal between the Congress and UML.

As per the deal, the elections to the posts of President, Vice-president and Chair of the Constituent Assembly will be held after the promulgation of the new constitution in a year.

The two parties have also agreed to endorse the decisions of the last Constituent Assembly, which was also one of the major demands of the UCPN-M after the November elections results.
