DHADING: Despite various campaigns organised by the government and non-governmental agencies to control domestic as well as other forms of violence against women across the country, the number of sexual violence cases have been increasing in Dhading.A report prepared by District Police Office, Dhading, revealed that incidents of rape and attempt to rape were increasing with each passing year in the district. During five years, as many as 48 cases of rape and 26 attempted rape cases have been reported in the DPO. As per the statistics of DPO, as many as 16 incidents of rape and six attempted rape had taken place in the district last year alone. Police said it was a great challenge for them to provide safety and security to women and children amid such increasing rate of rape incidents. DSP Prakash Malla, of the DPO, held misuse of technology, lifestyle, high ambitions, family structure among others as factors behind the rise in criminal activities.
He added that girls were raped by their relatives, family members and neighbours among others. DSP Malla suggested that sex education, education on criminal acts, love and affection, among others, should be made compulsory from the school level so as to control such incidents. Gyatri Khatiwada, woman rights activist, said every teacher must focus on sex education and prioritise girl education. “The court should give out instant decisions whereas police should launch short and long term plans to minimise such incidents,” she said.
