Gangajamuna (Dhading): A landslide on Tuesday buried at least seven houses and displaced 17 households at Purum of Gangajamuna Rural Municipality -2 in Dhading district.
The landslide has buried the houses of Dai Bahadur Tamang, Furba Tamang, Manoj Tamang, Tiruwa Tamang, Dal Bahadur Tamang, Suk Bahadur Tamang and Khim Bahadur Tamang.
As the incessant rainfall since Sunday night had triggered boulders rolling down to the human settlement which is situated on the flank of a hill, 17 households of the village on the same night had moved to a safer place, so no human casualties took place, said Ward Chairperson Faisingh Tamang.
However, domestic animals – cows, oxen, buffaloes, and goats- tethered to posts have been afflicted since very few households had managed to set them free.
As it rained the whole day on Tuesday, the landslide buried the houses, said Ward Chairperson Tamang, adding other houses might be washed away by the landslide as it had not stopped yet.
It has been learnt that though geologists had suggested after the April 2015 earthquake the resettlement of the eight villages of the northern part of Dhading, indifference shown by the officials has marred these people now.
The village which was declared a landslide prone area after the earthquake is two days walking distance from the district headquarters.
Chief District Officer Mahesh Acharya informed that the meeting of District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee has decided to resettle the community and distribute relief materials to the victims.
