DHADING: Dengue, a disease caused by a virus carried by mosquitoes, that causes fever and severe pain in the joints, has become prone to reach epidemic proportions in and around Dhading Besi, the Dhading district headquarters.

District Health Office (DHO), Dhading has decided to launch a campaign from today to take the breakbone fever under control after the number of patients with the disease has increase for the past few days.

A meeting held between a team from Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) of Kathmandu and the stakeholders in the district yesterday decided to mobilise 20 teams in the areas affected by the disease, the DHO Chief Maheshwar Shrestha informed.

More than 20 patients suffering from dengue were referred to Kathmandu in a week’s time while other are undergoing treatment in the district, the DHO informed.

During the campaign the teams of health prefessionals would visit each and every house and spray worker sprays insecticide for mosquitos to control Dengue, DHO Chief Shrestha informed.

Dengue is a viral disease transmitted by the bite of a mosquito infected with dengue virus.

However, it doesn’t transmit from person to person. Swelling of face, hands and feet and random bleeding are some symptoms of dengue haemorrhagic fever.

People with these symptoms should be taken to a physician without any delay. Other symptoms of the disease are high fever, severe headache, retro-orbital pain (pain behind the eyes), pain in muscles, bone pain, (break bone fever), back pain, nausea and skin rashes.
