DHADING: In a bid to curb road fatalities at the main entry route to Kathmandu, Prithvi Highway, authorities from Department of Roads have set up rubber speed breakers along accident prone areas in the road.

The highway which serves as a major entry point to Kathmandu from 67 districts in the country witnesses road-traffic deaths almost every day.

Although various measures have been put in place to reduce the number of accidents, none have been proven to reduce road mishaps so far.

In this backdrop, the authorities have installed rubber speed breakers for the first time along the highway.

According to department technicians, rubber breakers would bring down probability of accidents as automobile drivers would be forced to decrease speed at accident prone areas now equipped with rubber breakers.

Speed breakers have been installed beginning at stretches 300 metres away from accident and collision prone areas.

As of now, speed breakers have been installed at Ghat Besi in Naubise and Mauwa Khola road section where 33 persons had lost their lives a year ago after the bus they were travelling plunged into Trishuli river following an accident.
