DHADING, FEB 25 -The family of a 27-year-old married woman, who was murdered and raped on September 22, 2009, never received compensation as directed by the District Court.

Her 10-year-old daughter was also murdered and another one was injured in the incident. The District Court later convicted Subash Thapamagar of Dhola VDC-2 of murdering her. A single bench of Judge Rameshraj Pokharel sentenced life imprisonment to Thapamagar for murdering the woman, seven years in jail on the rape charge and additional 12 years in prison on the charge of murdering the girl.

The court also ordered Thapamagar to pay Rs 200,000 as compensation to the victims’ family. Of the woman’s two surviving daughters, one is under the care of a Kathmandu-based NGO and the other is being looked after by her parents. Her husband has already married another woman.

“I do not know where to go and whom to meet in order to receive it,” the deceased woman’s father said.

Rajendra Wagle of the court said the victims’ family is yet to get compensation though the government has confiscated Thapamagar’s all property. Pokharel said the government should compensate the victims’ family.
