DHADING: In an apparent act of revenge, a murder committed 11 years ago over neighbourhood scuffles in Dhading, has led to another gruesome killing, enacted by a father and his three sons.

Hasta Bahadur Tamang, and his sons, of Lawang-7 of Mahadevsthan VDC of the district, mercilessly thrashed neighbour Krishna Bahadur Tamang, shot him on his legs and threw him off the cliff.

The family of Krishna Bahadur had murdered Pemba, Hasta Bahadur’s son, back in 2005, over family spat.

Later, when peace process started, and government started distributing cash for the conflict victims, a cunning Hasta Bahadur put the name of his murdered son in the basket of those killed during conflict period. As a result, Hasta Bahadur’s family, mistaken by the state for war-victim, received Rs 300,000 in various installments as compensation to the loss inflicted by the death of Pemba.

According to the District Administration Office, Dhading, Pemba’s wife received Rs 150,000 in 2009 , Rs 100,000 in 2011 and Rs 50,000 in 2013, as war victim compensation.

However, the money taken by swindling the state would not satisfy the bereaved father.

11 years down the line, on Saturday, Hasta Bahadur, dogged with killer instincts, approached neighbour Krishna Bahadur, and offered him drinks. According to DSP Ashok Singh Thakuri, of the District Police Office, the incident occurred when Krishna Bahadur was heading towards his sister’s house to perform her after-death rituals.

Ignorant about what Hasta Bahadur and his sons were up to, Krishna Bahadur drank till his feet wouldn’t stand him. The resurrection of the killing then began. The gang of father and sons tied up helpless Krishna Bahadur, thrashed him, shot him on both his legs, and threw him off the cliff, in cold blood.

The District Court on Sunday remanded Hasta Bahadur to seven days custody. However, his three sons accused in the murder are still at large.
